    Excessive RAM Usage? Ummm...

Anyone know why a 16 meg SWF would use over half a gig of ram during playback?

This seem a little odd for a 16 meg file. The source file (FLA) is under 60 megs.

    Half a gig?!?!

    a lot of vector?
a very long timeline with constant use of alpha?
basically too much things happening at the same time.

You should check the CPU usage at the same time as you are checking the RAM usage. The concepts mentioned above (excessive alpha, long AS loops, concurrent tweening, tweening of large bitmaps, etc) will cause huge drains on the CPU usage as well.
