    Stress test this please!

    Hello all,

    http://www.interactivelabs.co.uk/canteen/
We've built this site for a client (the band, Canteen).

Some people (including the client) are complaining that the mp3 player is not listing any tracks (so isn't working at all).
I'm trying to work out if this is due to a a caching proxy or an actual problem with the player.

Personally, I can't reproduce the problem in any of my 5 different browsers, each with the cache cleared.
If anyone finds the player doesn't load it's content, please let me know.

    Cheers!

p.s. of course any other feedback is welcome too.
    Sam

    Hi,

I cant say i really like it. I think the thumbnails of the images should have a preloader, because the first time i ran the site they popped up kinda strange.

Only after a refresh i noticed that the grey area was being replaced by a (not a really good quality) picture. To me that really messes up the feel. I only say a grey field for a long time and suddenly wham a picture in my face, that is a bit too much i think

The scew effect is a bit on the lame side too i think. I dont think you spend a lot of time on this site, it couldnt have been more then a few days?

sorry i coudnt be a bit more positive, but thats what i felt

I can't even get in to the site period. Your flash detection page is messed up. Says I don't have flash 7 installed and I do.

    deamothul,
That's no problem; it's your opinion.

I'm not sure what you mean by preloading the thumbnails, they're a few bytes each and should already be loaded before the images tab opens (though another developer wrote the gallery bit, so I don't know the full details of how it works).
As for the main image, it probably does need to appear more gently.

The skew effect...well it took more than a few days; it's entirely code generated, not just a tween. If you don't like it, well fair enough I suppose.

    Rhame3,
Another developer should have fixed that by now, try again if you like.

p.s. I'd still like feedback on the music player working or not.

This is really weird...I can't get it to not work, despite clearing the cache and everything and I'm not going through a caching proxy as far as I know.

The reason the track listing isn't working is because, as far as I can tell, a php file isn't getting called sometimes.

Just to confirm this, does anyone see a php file called id3ToXML.php being called when the info is not showing up?
(If you're using Safari or Omniweb, there's an activity viewer to watch all the requests made by a page).

Thanks for all the help so far!

I don't see tracks using Firefox 0.8, Safari 1.0.3, or Explorer 5.2.2, all running on Mac OS 10.2.8.

In the Safari Activity Viewer, I did not see id3ToXML.php . Good luck.

    Hmpf
Right, it seems there was an error in the crossdomain policy file (I didn't write it, honest...).

    I think that's fixed it.

Are the background images supposed to be blurry? Overall the site is pretty good.

They're scans from old photos apparently, i don't really know much about them. Supposed to get updated at some point.

We built the shell, they gave us the content; the idea being they just upload new stuff as and when.

    Anyway, glad you like it.
Thanks to all for the help and input.
