A few people at /. recon we'll get injected ads or have to pay a small fee - how else is google going to profit from a POP service?

I prefer gmails GUI anyway, Its really cooool.

google is already a really expensive company, about over a billion $$... thats where they get their money. and i havent been billed for a small fee, nor do they take you credit card number... so, how are you going to pay 'em?

youll have a pop service that has injected ads, or if you want to get rid of them, you pay up. Since gmail is still in beta, the payment probably wont start until it goes live.

Yeah, will follow Hotmail's way of delivering it - though hopefully learning from their mistakes.

And anything that offers the same (or better) service but isn't MS has to be good!

    I just got it:

POP, or Post Office Protocol, lets you download messages from Gmail's servers onto your computer so you can access your mail with a program like Microsoft Outlook Express or Netscape Mail, even when you aren’t connected to the Internet.

POP access is free for all Gmail users and we have no plans to charge.

    * Over the next several weeks, we are introducing POP access to all of our users. To make sure the feature is fully stable, we're giving users access to POP in phases. Once POP access is available to you, a 'New Features!' link appears at the top of your account, along with a 'Forwarding and POP' tab on your 'Settings' page.
    works fine.

    Everyone else got it?

I think Thunderbird should support Gmail and have it's layout similar to the Gmail GUI.

    Woo!

P.S - Sub, why didn't you just forward the emails from all the accounts to one of them or summit?

    5GB into one Gmail account.

Nah, real reason is that the other accounts are more like big archives and they would have a similar impact as spam in my main account.

Yes. Always use your full email address and not just the first part (username ...), some of the help pictures on the gmail help pages are completly wrong, just ignore them, the help text should be correct.
