    Designing Logo

What are the best programs for creating logos, I have used adobe photoshop before but I want to know if there is something better out there that would do a better job and give more features and options.

    What do you use?

    Thanks

using a vector based programme is probably better so that when you scale it up or down you wont lose any quality
    freehand
    illustrator
    flash
    the list goes on....

i use illustrator myself for logo's sometimes

gives you the chance to edit your fonts by breaking them apart

    using filters and such..

My finals are done in Illustrator. Definatly a vector based app. Recently I've been playing around in Flash the logo design process.

    I like Macromedia

I use Macromedia products for web and graphic design as well as animation. If you can't get a copy of Illustrator (which is very good) I'd recommend getting another vector based program, Macromedia Fireworks.

You should always use vectors for creating logos.

    No, I mean Fireworks

Yes, there is a Macromedia Image Design Program called Fireworks.

I haven't tried Freehand so I dont know if it's better or not.

    I'll keep you posted

Yes but I thought Fireworks in bitmap-based while Freehand is vector-based.
But since I'm not completely sure i'd apreciate some insight on it.

fireworks is not vector. freehand is.
the same as photoshop, you can have some pseudo-vector effects ( vector masks and those things) but you cannot save as eps, nor pdf.

What's wrong with Flash, I use it all the time.

Flash is good for vector no doubt. But have you ever used the pen-tool in Illustrator in combination with CTRL - ALT - SHIFT keys?
Well, that's enough for me to do all vectorstuff in this application.

Actually I prefer Corel Draw to Illustrator, but I use both of them, but tend to do my initial designs in Flash...it's just easier for me.
