Ya know, now that I think of it, yeah. I guess a desert would've been a better backdrop. However, this is in the mountains.

Might be a little hard to work off of but I'll try to think of some ideas.

Do you believe in the fact that inspiration can come from otherwise un-heard of places? Well, it seems like I've just been inspired by Brady White's avatar. I'll work on something soon.

I usually get inspired by nature or furniture. Avatars aren't that special.

Not sure what I'll do with this one, but oh well. And yeah I know I suck, that's why I started this, to actally get some practise at what I can do, and try some new stuff. Thing is I really don't have a clue what to do when I'm actually creating stuff myself, and I don't like to do too much with just big swirly patterns and stuff, looks a bit pants if you can't get it perfect.

    Chris,

I hear ya. I get that feeling all the time. Sometimes, I'll have a great idea in 1 or 2 minutes but other times, it takes me longer to come up with interesting twists. It's what you'd call graphic designer's block.

    Chris & Flashkid

Check this out: tutes and other resources

Go through some of those sites listed, utilize the resources they offer, learn as much as you can. If you see something you like on these forums (in another battle image) don't be afraid to ask how it was done. If you want to get a more specific answer feel free to send a personal message to anyone.

The way most of us learn is from online resources, books, experience and each other. Sure, getting an education in a related field helps, but I've honestly learned more through experience and other resources than any professor could ever teach.

FlashKid: I know you use fireworks, but if you have access to Photoshop you need to start playing around with that. Fireworks might be a good resource for designing simple web graphics (I used to use it quite a bit, along with Photoshop, before PhotoShop integrated ImageReady and better text and vector capabilities), but it's far from giving you the image editing and creation capabilities that you get with Photoshop. If you don't already have it, at least invest in the education version and start learning.

Just some friendly, and hopefully helpful advice.

    Now on with the battle!

    Clicky,

Thanks for the advice. Yeah, I'm kinda pissed off that Fireworks isn't as good as Photoshop. I don't have Photoshop at home but I can check in the MATC Truax bookstore as to how much it'll cost. They have software at student discounts.

That's where I got my copy of Studio MX 2004, of course

I don't think the trial version will work on my home system. See, I had a trial coopy of Photoshop before when I took an Adobe Photoshop class a while ago.

See this is why I still prefer Fireworks to Photoshop... I can't figure out how to do basic things like flip an object, or even set its size in pixels. Ooh well.

Edit. And now I've been trying to draw a simple circle for baout 5 minutes, and it's still barely visible. It's the top layer, all visibilty things I can find are set to 100%, why the hell isn't it DRAWING AT 100%.
