    Ah well, the career's over!

Last night I tackled a guy at training. He then landed on my righ knee awkwardly and at the same moment I heard 2 or 3 almighty cracks from within my knee. Not a good sign! Got stretchered off, went to the hospital, got he MRI scan and have been told I need an operation on my crutial (sp?) ligament(s)

Might not be able to play again! If anyone knows of anyone having the same trouble but gettting back I would like to hear. PLease cheer me up! Gr8 start to the New Year!

Bad news mate. Unless you can afford expensive american doctors your screwed.

My Dad has the same injury, killed his football carrear and if he pushes it too much his knee falls apart and he's out for a month or so.

He's had several operations but nothing really fixes it. Maybe you have better chance because you're young and medical science has improved since his knee was knacked.

I think Gazza had the same injury, not sure though.

    Best of luck matey!

I did my knee in november but I don't think it's a crutiate ligament injury, just a really bad twist. I was able to play footy again recently but then fell on it again so now I'm going to take a couple of months off and get back into training to build up the muscle again.

Sorry to hear about your injury Ruggers, it's frustrating as hell not being able to play!

once a knee damage, always damaged, I did the same thing, but wrestling with my buddys, my knee popped many times.

All the snowboarding i do doesn't help either.

I am afraid it will never be the same.
Just take it easy for a few months at least, then slowly get into it, but rugby your asking for a beating.

    Sorry to hear that, ruggers.

I have had the same problem for years now (left knee, right one's fine) and it pretty much wiped out skiing and playing football.

I've been to docs and to a one they have said if I train my nuts off, strengthen the leg muscles, then have the surgery, then continue to train my nuts off, I might (that's might) be able to play football again without my knee collapsing underneath me, but there's no guarantees and if it does go again, I'm back to square one.

Ronaldo is the only guy who I can think of that has managed to successfully come back from this on any professional level. Take a look at his kness - it ain't pretty. Vampeta, who played for Corinthians and Brazil had the same problem and that (as well as the occasional wife beating) pretty much put pay to his career.

Wow, man sorry to hear about your injury.

One of my stepdaughters just had ACL surgery from, of all things, a cheerleading accident. She is on crutches now and is healing up nicely. If you have the option, I would recommend going for the surgery. She said it was the most painful thing she has ever felt, but she would do it agin if she had to.

Good luck dude, hope all gets much better for you this year!

sorry to here that ruggers. i had a really good skater friend blow out 3 of the 4 ligaments in his right knee, and that was the end of all real athletic activity for him. he still skated a bit, and played hoops, but the huge brace made being 'good' ever again an impossibility. i've only had 1 knee injury, and it was just a bad sprain...very painful, very scary. just remember to do your rehab!!!

Ah, these boys is all swelled up. So this was earlier...getting set to trade. Then, woooaaah differences.

    this is pretty funny...

so i read the title "the career's over" and ruggers starts off saying he tackled a guy at training.

needless to say i thought he got fired for assaulting a co-worker in a training seminar learning the latest update of PeopleSoft--course material certainly dry enough to drive even the most passive employees to violence...

took me a second he's talking about *soccer practice* hehehe

Ha, yeah sorry. Nice stories guys, Just talked to my brother who's a doctor and he said its not THAT bad. I'll still be able to get back to training in about 9 months time or so, but it'll be a while til I get back playing. I just don't want to end up looking like this guy!

forget bionic knees, Id much rather have a whole bionic body.. apparently it should cost me about 6 million dollars (plus inflation from 1974).

    sorry to hear this.

get the best doctor you can. fly somewhere if you have to. it makes a huge difference when it comes to surgeries/procedures used.

i had a surfing accident years back and had to have my ear-drum reconstructed. after several doctors were basically saying my hearing was going to be messed forever and it was going to take a year to heal before i could be back in the water, i went to the best ear doctors in the nation (maybe the world). they did some crazy work and it was back to 100% in a few months.

not saying the same will be possible for your injury. but, with all the money being poured into sports and treating their injuries, I am sure that there's a lot that good doctors can do. don't give up hope and go with the very best.

    DONT LISTEN TO THEM !!!

I had the same or maybe worst injury 2 years ago.

Heres a graphic that I will explain my injury on.

I had #7 totaly ripped of my knee its the Former cross ligament.

I had #6 stretched a lot its the Side ligament.

and my Meniscus #4 was sqash and there was liquid a bit eveywhere in my knee.

    How that happen :

For 2 weeks I was playing footbat, soccer, basketball, wake boarding and a lot of training in that. Then a night I went partying and drink a lot. The day after it was the Final Game of the year for the soccer league. There was 2min left on the clock when my knee decided to give up. I was just running whit the ball. Nobody touched me or whatever ... I just fall down and my knee was hurting a lot.

My knee was at 65% of its actual power. Prety gay for a sport man like me. So Ive seen a doctor who said to me. '' Look you can stay that way and broke your knee again or you can get a new ligament that will replace the one that is destroy. But it will take a full year before you can do sports again''. Hmmm let me think about it. Do sports again ?! HELL YEAH !!!

I had a operation 2 months after. They take about 1 centimeter by 6 a piece of my Knee Rotule Tendon.

They replace the destroyed ligament by the Tendon. Theyve washed out the Meniscus and cut a bit of the other ligament to place it back there. Ive done a LOT LOT LOT of physiotherapy. 2 to 3 times a week for 4 months. 1 time a week for 1 month and then I had to do exercise to get my full power.

Ive done a test recently and my knee got a result of 109% of its orignal power. Kinda kool uh ? ... The Tendon act like a SUPER ligament cause its transforming itself from a Tendon to a Ligament. Resulting in a more powerful ligament. The tendon regenerate itself Fully after 4 years. Not I got a 6 inch scar on my knee.

Now I can Run, Jump, WakeBoard, Football, soccer ... ANYTHING !!!

But theres a price to that .. a FULL year of recovery. Dont think that after 6 months that you are OK even if you think you are ... cause you will be hable to run at that time.

It worth the wait and everything. You will be stuck in bed for 2 or 3 weeks after the operation.

After that ... your a Pimp again !!!

    that bad sh*t...

only injury similar to that i have is a screwed up right thumb joint that got pulled out of its socket when i was parking a van up a high curb and the wheel spun out of my hand taking out my thumb in the process.

seen several specialists and they all say the same, its screwed, can have operation to TRY to repair it but no garentees and it will always be weaker than it previously was.

it gives way ever now and then when i use my thumb to push with like hard to push buttons, or unscrewing a tight jar lid.

also have knee trouble but thats cartalidge, but not bad enough for surgeory and even if it was i probably wouldn't have it done as i heard more people complain there worse after the op then before
and in a blink of an eye...
