    Some stupid hosting questions

    Hey again guys,

Ok say Im buying some space from company X however this company does not register doamain name. I guess I will have to register the domain with different company Y. How to I link both companies...so my domain name will point to company X were my site is ?

Any suggestion for a cheap domain registration ?

One more thing it seems that my personal info will be seen if someone uses WHOIS..how to protect from that one ?
    //I figure that one out..

    thnx

Point your DNS from the registrar to your DNS location servers.

    example :

    rt11.goddady.com

    must be change to

    your.dns.com

The DNS must be done where you registered your .com.
Inform you whit your host on what is your DNS.

    Then change it.

Ok so let me see if I got it:

I go to Godaddy.com and register domain name madsci.com

then I go to Globat.com and by the hosting.

go to Godaddy.com and replace the DNS with the DNS provided by Globat..

    is that it ?

Actually the propagation of .com, .net, and .biz take about 10 minutes (and it's been this way for a number of months).

One of the very few good things that Verisign has done is rapid updates for DNS changes.

If the site had been live in the past, you have to worry about DNS caching for up to the TTL (or twice the TTL, if you're sitting behind windows anywhere).

If it's a virgin domain, and it takes more than 20 minutes, find yourself a new registrar (I see isharks registered through godaddy - did you pull it live on one hosting, then try to change the dns servers? the old servers may get cached, but the root zone is updated every 5 minutes - the rest of the internet will see it live on the new host before you, because you get the cached records).

It is a virgin domain, registered about 2 weeks ago. Hosting bought friday, name servers switched saturday. Still hasn't switched over for me.

When I type isharks.com I see the godaddy parking page not my hosting page at globat.

It has been too long now, I'll have to email godaddy.

The two weeks between when you registered your domain and changed the DNS disqualifies the 'virgin' point - it only applies if there's NEVER been a lookup for the NS records of that domain. I'm almost positive that in the 2 weeks, you looked up the record once (visit the godaddy holding page, etc?).

If it's really not working, I'm honestly surprised.
