Is there a reason to use set more than about 30fps
    in your flash?
the default is 12fps but it seems slow
and 25 seems to run ok on most systems

It depends on how many frames your doin your animation over & how fast you would like it 2 go ....i suppose?

but the higher the fps, the bigger the file size, cause there are more frames.

i use 18-22, and that runs smoothly

but 30fps seems like it would go really fast, i'll experiment with that sometime..

Macromedia suggests setting it at 18 FPS so that older computers do not lock up.

Also the Flash 4 player will not play anything over 18 FPS.

Yup. That's what the Flash 5 speed bug is. The Flash 4 player could only achieve a speed rate of 18 FPS. People created Flash 4 projects with higher FPS thinking that it would achieve the speed then along came Flash 5 player which could play those speeds and whoa and behold everyone Flash 4 SWF's played faster in the Flash 5 player. Check it out on the macromedia website.

So why didn't Macromedia bring out a patch or something?
I mean if flash 4 couldn't achieve its expectation of 25fps

The Shockwave player (Note that it is a different player than the Flash Player) could play SWF's with the higher frame rate.

    Smile I've been framed

And to add to the confusion,...

Ultimately Flash would have to match broadcast frame rates of 30 frames per second, (which actually is 29.97 f.ps. Stupid yes, but stupid is as...) AND... video really is 60 f.p.s. composed of two interlaced fields to derive the 30 f.p.s. rate.

Motion picture frame frame rates are 24 f.p.s.

PAL format overseas is 24 for their broadcast. That's why newscast video footage from their TV looks jumpy here.

    Confused anyone????? Me too.

Everyone suggesting that you use a higher than 18 Frame rate should read this:
