Get parameters from URL

In the next version of Flash, I really want a feature that can extract variables from an URL in this form:

http://www.server.com/subdir/mymovie.php?name=John+Doe

For example: I retreive the variable "name" from the URL and I use it in my movie. Or am I just being stupid and is this already possible?

that should work fine if you try to communicate with the swf file directly, ie:

http://www.flashguru.co.uk/flashguru...ablename=value

but it wont work through an html page!
