Re: 48 Hour Flashkit Competition BEGINS!

I'm not a fan of the topic. In the past it's always been somethign that can be left up the the developer's interpretation, but this year's is fairly restrictive.

Actually, I should say that your explaination of the topic makes it restrictive (and doesn't really match the topic itself.) Where does a "Product" come from "Business Through The Ages"? Why must the product be an outcome of the events in the game? Too many limits and I think we'll lose that fun spontaneity that previous 48hr comps have had.

Might be restrictive, but it's more challenging, and it makes us think a little bit more, not only make a simple game (like a shooter game with a peanut spaceship), and it makes us not getting much out of the bounds.

I don't get how it's restrictive really. Like make a game of your a construction worker who has to bounce materials on a trampoline until it reaches the crane that places it on the building and so the product is the building. You have to think outside the box. Don't just make an assembly line, make something creative. If you can't think of anyway that this can be a super way to express originality...well I don't know maybe you should try a different approach at interpreting the product. Like it doesn't have to be humans. What if dinosaurs with hard hats did something? Or a bunch of squirrels making the eiffel tower destroyer. Comon...

    "business through the ages" ...
So does it have to be a product, or could it be a service? like, say, a game about hairdressers, or chimney sweeps?

edit: or dentists, or pickpockets, or ratcatchers...

Just woke up! But it seems I can't find a nice concept for my game!

    Good luck everyone!

I think the most important is to show in which time your game takes place. Else, I could just submit my Bar Keeper game again, and most of you would also probably find an old game that fits well.

If it were to be about a service, it would have to be rather specific. Not like an RPG where you are "servicing" the king. Stuff like dentist would be fine except how would u show the time period. Cavemen dentistry would be quite comical. However, it would be better if you made it towards a good and not a service.(unless you have some kickass idea).

Can it be a remixed version of history? For example, world war two and there's monsters and creatures fighting aswell or some other crazy idea, but it should be obvious what time period it is.

I dont see why not, as long as its in the theme, you can do whatever you want. the more random the better. Then again, like you said, it would have to be very clear what time period it was if your gunna mess with it.

All I can say is: THE TIMING COULD NOT BE BETTER! Yay!

For the first time in ages, my saturday does not involve working from 11 am to 8.30 pm!

I like the topic.. I think.. I may have an idea

But how clear and how long must the timeage be? Like, can it be as vague as "modern age"? Or does it have to be clear exactly which year it is?

    Btw: I became 18 yesterday, 1. April

Edit: check out my 48h blog too link in signature. (more details about my birthday:P)
