How To: Populating Characters on the Screen

Hey All,

I've seen this done before and I can't remember where/how. I need to have a specific character populate on the screen say 50 times. They would populate randomly (say every half second) and then move around randomly in an "atom-like" way. Has anyone seen this done before?

Any suggestions and/or nudges in the right direction would be appreciated.
