    Link problem!

    Hello again!

I have another linking problem now!

I have a flash template which has buttons on the left hand side. I want to rename the text on these and add a link to them too.

I can do this if it's normal text but the buttons appear to be a movie clip.

How do I make the changes? Do I do it in the Library? or on the main timeline?

Thanks! (sorry for being so stupid!!)

    Hello!
First off, there is no stupid questions here.
Second, to get to the text, keep clicking on the object. Eventually you will get to the text. Check and make sure the layers are unlocked that you are trying to get to also.
If you can, post your fla so we can see what you are looking at.

Ok, here is what it looks like to me.
On the "About us" (expand the folder in the layers)
The bottom layer is the MC that holds the button. Double click it to get into that MC. Then lock all of the layers EXCEPT the bottom one. The bottom layer is the text to the button.
Double click that layer and bingo. That is where you can change the text.
To change the link, it is the top layer. No need to double click here.
Select it, and then open your actions panel. There should be actions there talking about the rollover and such. That is where you can put in your link.

Hope this helps you out a little! Let me know if you need more help.

OH! I'm so sorry! I'm really confused!

Right, I've opened up the fla file.

I've click on the 01 on the preview which opens up more layers on the timeline.
I've scrolled down to a layer called About.
Expanded the about layer and I have 4 more layers inside that folder.
I've double clicked on the bottom layer and a layer properties window pops up.
    Now I get confused! LOL!

    No problem!
Here is what I did step by step:

On the main timeline I clicked on frame 2.
Double Click the white dot in the center of the stage.
    Expand the "About Us" folder.
Unlock the last layer in that folder.
Move the frame slider to frame 28.
Double click the MC on the STAGE.
Lock all the layers EXCEPT the bottom one.
Double click the MC on the STAGE.

That should get you to the text.
Let me know if you get it or not.

I've spent ages trying to reply! I kept getting page not found!

    Thanks!

OK! I've followed your (very clear) instructions and have changed the text of About Us to Home!!!

    Awesome!
Now you just have to do that same thing for the other buttons, apply your links, and you are gold!

Oh dear - I'm not doing very well here!!!

I have expanded the folder named clients.
    Unlocked the last layer.
Moved the slider to the end of where the motion tween is on the last layer.
Double clicked the movie clip, on the stage and all I get is one layer appear in the timeline!

Make sure you lock layer 19 in the clients folder. I would also click the visibility button (next to the lock icon) in the layer. That way the mask won't get in the way.

They're meant to say, Home, Portfolio, Prices, Contact Us and Links.

    I can't believe I can't do this. I'm so annoyed with myself!

Give this a try. I don't have the font you used on my machine, but it should load up alright on yours.

Hmm for some reason, it's not keeping the attachment. Maybe a zip file will work...
