if i buy a domain name from a from a company do i have to host my site through the same company, or can i take my site name elsewhere and use it ?

Do a Who Is search on your domain name. If you are listed as the registrant, you are free to do whatever you want. If you are not, then you need to contact whoever is and get that rectified.
