Keep working with it, there are a few little things that are needed but that comes with time.
The right hand needs to have a border line on it like the left one.
Round out the edges of the diaper.

The girls face is good but there is no need for the highlights that you put in her hair. Just solid black would look better in my opinion. :-)

Keep up the practice! you are doing fine.

I really want to have some lighting and shadow effect for my character but it always looks bad >.< If you use illustrator, what method will people create shadow of the character. (mesh gradient? it seems not looking well)

Those are my first work. Surely I will tried more in the future ^^

a quick and easy to show shadows and highlights is to just draw them on in slightly darker or lighter colours than the base
prime example see the attached pic of the simpsons

Great Example Tayjax! Multioscar, Tayjax's example is a really good one. I do not use Illistrator, but if you do as Tayjax says and draw the shadows in a slightly darker or lighter colour then I think you will be pleased with the outcome. :-) This is exactly what I do when drawing vectors.

Here is an example of what we are talking about, using your drawing. It was a quickie so excuse the jagged edges! It is just to give you an idea of how to use layers to give the impression of shadows and lighting.

I really appreciate your examples. I always think that it takes long time to create a good shade in the picture with pen tool.

How 's about this illustration? Is it done by pen tool?

That is an Excellent example in that link you posted! I can't say for sure that the person used a pen tool. I use a mouse most of the time even though I have a large pen tablet. I think it is just a matter of what you are the most comfortable with.
