Looking for great music: Female vocals

I'm getting a new audio setup sometime in the next week or so, and apparently, it does amazingly with female vocals. I love music, but I don't know much about it (artists, albums, whatnot). I don't have any female vocals CDs, so I want to go out and buy some.

Any suggestions on some great albums that feature female vocals?
Recent, old, whatever. Great melodies, great vocals.

Looking for uplifting, grand vocals... if there is such a thing.

    Thanks so much!
    Cheers,
    Tommy

try the twin peaks soundtrack or norah jones. others include nellie mckay, alicia keys, the carpenters, joss stone (first album), 10,000 maniacs, the sundays, aretha franklin, patsy cline. allison kraus has an amazing voice, but a lot of her stuff is too country - but not all.

Ah, these boys is all swelled up. So this was earlier...getting set to trade. Then, woooaaah differences.

I might start off with some Norah Jones. Any suggestions on which of her albums to buy first?

her voice is butter baby, it will show off that system well...
she only has two albums, and they are about the same.
personally, i like the first one better --- "come away with me" i think it's called.

I'm back home. I just went to pick up Come Away With Me (Norah Jones) after work. First impressions: wonderful voice (would work well with my setup, I'm betting), but the songs haven't grown on me yet. Time to listen some more.

I listened to some clips of Sarah McLachlan on Amazon's site. They've got a catchy tune, so I might be getting that next. I listened to Dione and Aguilera a long time ago. Maybe I'll get something from them again later.

Gotta check out Bjork, Wainwright, and Gibbons.

    Mwahahah, CD buying spree.

As for Evanescence, I've got that. Love it.

OOOh, Venio's right. Bjork's new album is ALL vocals. I think there's 5.1 and SACD versions out too.

There are tons, you've had good suggestions already, but I was just thinking, if you want to test it with something that 'rawks' a bit more than ms jones try the incredibly tacky but oh-so-enjoyable-in-a-guilty-way Meat Loaf song, 'I'd do anything for love'. There's a woman singing solo on there that never fails to blow the roof off

Sorry to go off topic, but could someone just calrify something for me.

What exactly is SACD? I've ordered the deluxe edition of The Downward Spiral and it says it has SACD. Do i need an SACD player to hear the benefits? Will the CD play on a normal CD player?
