I have Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. And I sprained my wrist...
So apparently I sprained my wrist and didn't even know it.
My wrist started hurting about a two weeks ago after a tennis tournament. I thought it was because I had been on the computer for too long. I've never had a wristpad before and went out and bought one, but it didn't help much. I thought my wrist pain would go away, but it's been two weeks...
I went to the doctor today and had it checked. Apparently I f'ed up my wrist and the tendons have been seriously sprained. He said I was lucky that I could still move my wrist.
I'm still typing away at the computer though. He said I should get a cast.
Eeeks...... argh.....
Damn, it hurts.
Edit: Ah... I forgot the most important detail. The doctor said I had carpal tunnel syndrome.
My wrists have been weak since I was little. I've never been able to make a fist. Prolonged computer use has killed my wrists, apparently. ****...

Ow. How old are you?
Yeah I have weak ankles (right one mostly). Every so often I'd be walking in a straight line and it would give way, sending me flying. I sprained it real as a kid, just running around.

Carpal tunnel at 16... argh... I would never have thought. It's not severe enough to make my fingers feel dead, but my wrist hurts like hell (feels like needles are poking into my wrist).
I type with one hand now.
Things to buy:
Wrist immobilizer (wrist splint) to wear while I'm not typing.
Split keyboard (one of those old school keyboards that are split in half and angled).
Bleh...... It's only my right wrist for those who care.

Whoa... ugly but cool keyboard.... uber expensive.

No wonder! I've been working at the United States Naval Research Laboratory and ALL of the computers have split keyboards and trackballs. I didn't know why..... lol....
Argh.
Thanks for the tip!

I had wrist pains in my mousing hand too, terrified it was carpal tunnel (started to hurt after being on the 'puter all day then playing the guitar, next day couldn't do anything with it)
Anyway..long story short there was nothing actually wrong with it, wrist specialist couldn't find anything, reckoned a bit of wrist pain was just an occupational hazard of using a 'puter. Doc said to me unless you have a tingling sensation in your palm in aint CTS.
1. Get a better mouse
2. Get an additional input device so you're not always using the hand the same way (i got a trackball i roll with both thumbs, useless for design ok for everything else)
3. Learn more keyboard shortcuts to reduce your mousing
4. Take breaks

Bleh, I went for more tests today actually. I'm now getting slight pricking sensations in my thumb and index finger. Ahhh. Eating with chopsticks is utterly impossible. I can't write with a penci/pen right now.
Oh my goodness, I hope it gets better soon...

don't be cheap. buy expensive stuff that really works, your health is more valuable. I've got a natural keyboard pro (microsoft) try to get one they rock, it's to bad they are not producing it anymore. But anyway i don't have any problems with carpal syndrom, but i don't want to take the risk so i bought a better mouse and keyboard.
remember if you treat your body right, it'll last a lifetime

Yeah, I've only recently discovered the importance of health. I've never cared much about my body since I was little. I always thought my body wasn't worth it. I was young. But now.... I've realized that health is the most important aspect of living. Heh. Sounds stupid, doesn't it.
