conclusive xml/php admin area?

I have been trawling through posts of xml php client admin ideas but can't seem to find anything that's conclusive or straight forward - idiot proof basically.

I've made several sites where clients can update external .txt files but now want to make a separate admin area. Basically a page where a client can go type in some content hit save and copy on the main site updates. I realsie this is probably really simple but can't find a good tutorial or an easy to follow thread.
