Problem with Firefox
I have a movie that I created in Flash 8 that calls web services. It works correctly in IE, but when I try it in Firefox I get this message in the status bar at the bottom of the browser and the web services don't work:
Code:
"Transferring data from fpdownload.macromedia.com..."
I went into the code and saw the parameter in the object tag that has:
Code:
codebase="http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=8,0,0,0"
so I put that URL in my browser and downloaded and unzipped the file. I then tried to run the GetFlash.exe file and it keeps giving an error with the installation. My best guess is that that's why my browser keeps sticking in Firefox, anyone have any insight into this problem?
Thanks!

Download & install the Flash Player from Macromedia's site:

I wish it were that easy. I am running version 8.0.22.0 of the player on Firefox already. Any other suggestions?

if you use the adblock extension for firefox it kills all flash8 movies...
upgrade it to adblock plus(google) or deinstall adblock completely and it should work again

Okay, let me be a little more clear. The movie starts to play, but when it reaches the point that it needs to run the web services it stops and I see the error at the bottom of the browser, so it's not adblock either. Any other ideas?
I've been trying to run the flash installer for Firefox on some other computers and it seems to malfunction. Are there any known issues with it that could be causing a problem with Firefox displaying properly?

Have you tried Netscape? If it does not work there but on IE it may be a Actionscript coding issue.

Good call. I downloaded and installed Netscape and it does the same thing.
I figured out that the hang up is when it calls the web services.
Do Firefox and Netscape handle WebServiceConnector events differently than IE?

What the general opinion is that Mozilla is much more exact than IE, which is like a sponge and accepts bad and wrong coding. I don't want to say that your coding is bad or wrong but it might be related to your coding or setup of the component. I have not used the flash component but made an application from scratch for a weatherservice. So i cannot evaluate what might be wrong.
