Layer set poses a problem in photoshop cs2

Its a great boom to designers for having been able to create nested layersets in photoshop cs2. But the most useful functionality of selecting a particular by ctrl+clicking the layer on the canvas, is not functioning in Photoshop CS2. I have tried a lot of times.
    ------------------------------------------------------------------
But, whenever i ctrl click a layer in the canvas, that is in a nested layer set, only the respective layerset is being selected(Highlighted in the layer panel)....
    ------------------------------------------------------------------
Is this my own problem, or have anyone experienced this...or is it another key combination for selecting a layer apart from ctrl+cick.??

CTRL+ALT+APPLE+Click on the Mac works, so I'm assuming it's CTRL+START+ALT+Click for layers within a nested layer set.

Or it may be SHIFT instead of START. I'm on a Mac, and it's the bottom three across to the shift button, not the shift bar btw.
