    Flash 8 FLV Video?

I'm building a portfolio website that contains .flv broadcast clips. I've chosen to progressively download these clips into my main swf file. Because these are .flv files will the end user need the flash 8 plugin to view these? I would like to avoid making people upgrade their plug-in if possible.

Also can I create a preloader within my main .swf movie that will recognize if the .flv is loaded. In the past I've embedded the video into a separate flash file along with a preloader. I then used that swf to be loaded into the main swf. I've never created a preloader in the main file itself, always in the file that was to be loaded.

    Thanks,
    em_city

    Hi em_city,

You will need the new Flash 8 player in order to see the VP6 Flash video.

Yes you can create a preloader within your main .swf movie that will recognize if the .flv is loaded. See http://www.gotoandlearn.com/ for a tutorial on how to do this.

Yup... a standalone encoder ships with F8.

The F8 version only lacks the compression options (such as two-pass VBR)
