As long as none of them involve Valtrex, it's fine.

I agree it's good taste and bad taste.
I'll take it a step further though and say people who have bad taste listen to bad music. They don't know it's bad though because they either haven't been exposed enough to good music or are just too stupid to know the difference.
Matchbox romance.. is that a softer version of Matchbox 20?

so, why do you start a thread to discuss this topic, if you already made up your mind and you don't seem to even try to see other people's opinions?

Well, there is also a difference between having bad taste in music, and having a taste for bad music...

Anyone who disagrees with Visionray's hypothesis has obviously never heard The Shaggs.
Listen to My Pal Foot Foot,
then tell me there is no such thing as bad music.

Hey, ever hear the music of the avante-guard Japanese musician Keiji Haino? One of the students from the UK I knew over there was obsessed with him.
Imagine an drum keeping a beat with no beat, overlayed with someone mashing the strings of a guitar and wailing like a banshee having its scrotum twisted in a vice.

Domo Arigato!
The question, I think, is how musically talented the band is. I guess even this is technically subjective, but what isn't?
I really enjoy forgetting. When I first come to a place, I notice all the little details. I notice the way the sky looks. The color of white paper. The way people walk. Doorknobs. Everything. Then I get used to the place and I don't notice those things anymore. So only by forgetting can I see the place again as it really is.

What about music that stands the test of time? Like design, which this argument can also work with, good music will be good regardless of the scene. Bands that come and go as the scene changes I don't see as very good because most exist only because of the current fad.
It must be obvious day at camp stupid

Whether it's enjoying someone hitting a pan with a spoon or sitting in an opera house listening to La traviata, it all boils down to taste. Instruments can be baldy played, notes can be sung off key, drums hit out of time, a melody can lead nowhere, yet someone, somewhere will still think of it as good music.
. . . .

I think that, in order for this argument to go anywhere, you have to define a context. It's not enough, or at least, not productive/useful communication to categorize music as either bad or good. What constitutes bad or good music? Is it the innovation, feeling, technical performance, content, complexity? I think the question is fairly easy to answer if you definte that. But, then, there would certainly be disagreement as to what defines bad/good music.
Add to that the additional layer of familiarity. The circumstances of a persons experience with certain music will always affect their response to it. Songs people grew up with or associate with certain experiences ("our song", etc) will feel differently about it when they hear it.
In regards to taste, it's the same thing. In order to come to any substantial conclusion, you have to define what qualifies as good taste. Otherwise, it's just subjective. You could say that, someone who dedicates a lot of time, thought or maybe activity to music arguably has more refined taste. But, does that mean it's better taste? What if two people are equally experienced and refined but come to completely different conclusions?

Not that they are really bad, just not a band I would have chosen to come back.
