Simple Question
Can someone tell me how to do opacity effects in flash?

by opacity effect you mean transparency?
if its a movie clip out of your library you can either:
set the opacity/transparency with actions script instancename._alpha = X.
or
set it manually by clicking on your object then goint to properties and choose alpha from the drop down menu.
if you trying to fade something create a new keyframe and change the transparency in that key frame. right click in one of the frames between the two key frames and choose create motion tween.
