What determines new style in Flash Design

What determines what is good flash design? When is it determined, and by whom? Who are the trend setters? Why is one type of design in for the web, then suddently out? Where do the new trends in design start? Is it in books? Software manuels? Magazines? How does one become a trend setter is design?

Since good design is such a subjective matter, I have always pondered this.

Trends are set by designs that are inovative and work well. Sometimes a current trend is seen in a clothing collection first, then in magazines, then on the web. Different mediums are in there and they are in different order all the time. A lot of it, I think, has to do with nailing a concept in a new way.

to be honest...although alot of people will argue with me... It's ALL ABOUT THE AUDIENCE. So, it may not be flash designers who determines it, it may be a current trend in music lifestyle, current products, even current TV ads, or more importantly, what product the website is selling.

More people will probably hate me for this, but i think the web is a lagging market for attracting an audience. Someone will pay attention to an ad or a referral before htey trust a site or even determine if a site is 'good' or not. Remember that a flashy design doesn't mean it's effective in selling your product to the right audience.

I agree... 50%. The other 50%... how you pull it off. Even though there's a few people around here that are deeply entrenched into Flash - villain2 comes to immediate mind - his ability to pull it off is what sets him and others apart.

Style points and style execution is solely on how well it's received by the audience.

Seriously. You're about as on-topic as a herpes medicinal commercial during a cooking show.

Lefteye makes a good point. I don't think any good design trends started on the internet, probably due to exposure and misuse of the medium. I know I look at ads in magazines and on TV and really pay attention to them, but on the web I really just pass over them.

    FutureSplash Animator debut in 1995.

You still have not made any coherent points... seriously. Why even ask questions when you can seemingly never answer a damn thing in the same direct manner as I've just answered?

Nevermind. I don't want some random dissertation involving asymptote limits and pi over 4 having to do with the quaternary cycle of development and its relation to monitor production, Moore's Law, and lunacy treatments in Victorian times. Macro. Indeed.

    Fair enough.
It just seemed like a bot that randomly constructed irrelavant statements and questions.

I don't see why a lot of people would disagree with you.

One of the most important elements of design, especially in site design (using flash or any other content) is consideration of who you think will be hitting the URL.

Unfortunately, that means that in a lot of cases, the UI will have to match the lowest common denominator; the least-web savvy of all your expected visitors. The trick is to make even that basic UI interesting and visually pleasing.

A delicate trade-off that takes practise to master.
