    check this css layout?

will you take a look and tell me what you think. The client wants one of those long thin css sites with a simple look. I made it today and wonder what your first opinions are?

thank you. I'll go and look at some sites here now and reply to them as a sort of thanks for looking

Nice to see some clients choose to go for the simple and clean look- lucky!
Looking good, but 2 suggestions- first, I'd suggest using only one content box- you have two- one with the 1px black border and one with the subtle glow. I'd suggest just using the subtle glow one and maybe stretching the layout too because it looks too thin. The other suggestion is making it 100% height because for higher res (1280x1024) the bottom is cut off.

A couple things, to start contgrats on writting valid code!

Now, the site is waaaaaaaayyyyy too small and I know your trying to accomodate people still using an 800x600 resolution but let's not get crazy. Anyone with rez 1024x768 on up I think will feel awkward looking at that.

Another thing on high rez monitors you can see beyond the bottom of the content and it looks like something is missing (mostly cause you have this black line around the whole thing then it suddenly stops).

Right below the grey line there is a break in your drop shadow which you likely will want to fix.

Aside from the awkward proportions the site is nice (maybe you could make a longer fade from the black to the photo on the top, personal taste).
    Good luck,

Thanks. I will probably widen the site but one thing - because of the very small amount of written content for each page, there's going to be a hell of a lot of space with nothing in it. Do you see what i mean?

lots of great looking sites i see are very rich in content and the disigner can afford to have wider sites, but in this case it will be difficult.

ps. how can i get it to stretch right to the bottom if a user has a high res - i did this in the css - but you say its not working?

I'll look into all the suggestions so far.

well, your site is only like 430x700, my resolution is 1280x1024 so there is a couple hundred pixels of nothing at the bottom.

about the content, put lots of pictures? I dunno

Try these for 100% height tutorial. As for 'expanding' content, I suggest
    • Padding. Lots of padding and margins where appropriate
    • Extend the header image in width and most importantly, height
    • Use a different, perhaps wider font

I approve man looks nice, I, myself might still extend the bottom just for the hell of it but that may be personal preference.

^ second that, looking much better though it seems a little too bland without the full color image at the top IMO

Yeah! Way better- much more css-site-esque, especially with the navigation on the left instead of the top.

I think it looks much better then what is posted as the grey image, but I am not a css expert.
