thats a very unique idea. Me thinks it is done as so:
Method 1
One clip, loads all images at start.
images are stacked (swapDephs)
images except 1 and 2 are set invisible
mask is created
image 1 is set visible
image 2 is masked
mask's height and width is proportional to mouse's position depending on current setting ("right or left")
When masks width and height = 0 or screenSize image 1 becomes invisible
image 2 unmasked
image 3 is masked.
process repeats.
I could be wrong, but that's how i'd do it.

Excellent though, and for once the idea hasn't been whored out and copied by others!
