I haven't played video games in years, but my all-time favorites are Contra, Mike Tyson's Punch-out and Super Mario 3 on the NES; and Zelda III, Final Fantasy III, Chrono Trigger and Mortal Kombat II on the SNES.

Mortkal Kombat II is the best fighting game EVER.
Ok we all agree with Zelda as ALL time best. Now break it down to sub genres.

i'm shamed that ive never played the original zelda. my most favorite would be chrono trigger. Mostly because of all the different choices you could make, and i thought the story line was really original. My second fav would be FF3 just because i love the story as well.

Best Sports Game Ever: Tiger Woods 2004...even if you hate golf, this is an amazingly well put together game. The reason i don't say Madden is because the series really hasn't changed THAT much over the years, but TW2004 was a great innovation in that sporting genre.

best racing game: Gran tourismo(sp?)
best micro managment rpg: Final fantasy tactics
Best Stratgy game: starcraft
best action/suspense/horror: Resident evil
best mmorpg: World of warcraft

What about best game series? Off the top of my head we have Tony Hawk, Resident Evil, Final Fantasy, Grand Theft Auto, Mario, Sonic....

Ok, now we're getting into a grey area...that's more of an arcade game...not EVERYONE can play that as most of the time it's only in bars.

It's arcade, but it's still a sports game. And they have it at arcades for kids of all ages to play.
