Microsoft, you idiots!
Microsoft announced they won't support EFI in Vista... that means... no booting Vista on those nice, new Mactel's...
Microsoft revealed today that it will not support EFI booting for Windows Vista on its launch. The news will be a shock for owners of Intel Macs who had hoped they would be able to dual-boot between Windows Vista and OS X. Intel Macs only support booting via EFI.
Well... wait, there's a bit o' hope...
Speaking at Intel Developer Forum San Francisco, Microsoft development manager, Andrew Ritz, also revealed that there will never be any support for booting Windows via EFI on systems with 32-bit processors.
But that means the current EFI on the MacTel boxes will have to be upgraded to 64-bit from 32-bit EFI.
so close... so very damn close.
Oh, read it all here...

Is Vista going to be any different from XP?

Not so shocked. Read an article in eWeek today saying how EFI 2.0 was expected to be "the" final standard, and was expected to go gung-ho with 64-bit machines. Not quite ready yet, and they probably don't want to have to deal with 1.1 vs. 2.0 both out in the wild at the same time.

Really, though. Outside of the graphics card effects. alt-tab "sideways" windows and the start bar search, there seems to be nothing new at all to warrent an upgrade.

nope. none of that is a reason to upgrade.
sadly enough, you asked, yet knew all of that. loaded question asking chump.

Dude, I had a thread with a total breakdown of Vista's features. It looks pretty damn good, especially as they're reworking the kernel and networking... Yum.
Oh, and for the traitors on Intel Macs wanting to dual boot... Ha. Too bad.

screw Vista. there's not too much really going for it that means too much to me. win2k is perhaps the best version of windows ever... no frou-frou wizards, interface, and solid as hell.

I agree.
Also, if Windows is so cr@p like people claim it to be, why do they want to use it?

yeah... I know. oh well. that's why I'm running win2k3 server. it'll be dropped sooner or later too.
WinME... was it truly really ever supported? I mean, you'd think they'd fix it.
