Anyone have huge headaches cause of IE update and Flash?

So i just deployed my new website design yesterday...

    www.briandoakes.com

Thankfully I don't use flash that much... only for the home page photo splash.

So i deployed it yesterday everything was great and then today (after I updated microsoft) I kept getting that stupid tooltip to "Click Enter or Spacebar to activate" thing....

At first I thought the problem was on my end... till I saw that it worked find in FireFox.

Thankfully I was able to find the solution for it..
    http://www.pixelmill.com/(dc3i91rvf1...cleID=kb101593

and fixed it rather quickly. But I only had one file to fix....

I am curious how this affected some of you more Flash Intensive designers and having to fix your sites? or did you just say skip it, and not bother recoding each page?

I tried using the Flash Object..

To be honest with you, I found it more complicating than the other method..

Maybe I just didnt do it right.

    Yeah...

I was able to get the flash file working... but I use a JavaScript drop down menu on my site: www.briandoakes.com and when i used Flash Objects the drop downs get hidden behind the flash...

I couldnt figure out how to fix this.

yeah... but I realized why I had a problem with Flash Objects and my drop downs..

I forgot to set wmode=transparent to allow the drops downs to show..

once I did that Flash Object worked great.

I prefered Flash Object to the previous method... because from a SEO standpoint having any <NOSCRIPT> is usally not good, and it looks like Flash Object will allow me to create content that will appear for users who dont have Flash installed.

    thanks!

that's funny, the article you linked to says this now:

"Update 3/23/06 An easier solution is to use the FlashObject embed script to embed your Flash movie into your web site. We have a tutorial that explains that here: Flash Detection Using FlashObject While you can still follow the instructions below, we recommend the FlashObject embed script because it's easy to use and it includes Flash detection as well."

    LOL, yeah...

In a rush to get my site working, I didnt even see the BIG BOLD RED letters that said there was a update with a easier fix.

So originally I did the longer more complicated one and it worked..

then when i tried to go back and do the easier one, I ran into a problem, because I was missing something in the code... once I realized the mistake, I fixed it and switched over to the easier Flash Object one.
