when you say eye-piece what do you mean? the LCD? if that's what you're referring to, can you not just use the optical viewfinder? or have i misunderstood you completely!?

no the LCD is not visible until the pic is done being processed. I am talking about the viewfinder thingy...( where you put your eye) that goes black while the shutter is open. This makes it difficult to track objects while they are moving...so I'm wondering if there are any trade secrets on how to keep the object in the cameras 'path' .

On a (D)SLR the viewfinder show you the view through the lens, so when the shutter opens and the mirror flips all you see is black.

I had the same problem when I first started, and all I can tell you is that it takes practice. Having a digital camera makes this learning curve a little less "wallet intensive" as you can just delete bad shots. Practice, practice, practice...

I plan to practice a lot....and yes , being able to delete with a button is soooo nice and sooo inexpensive !

Normally i am a big fan of these types of photos, I am not a fan of the blue, however. What white balance setting did you use? Lots of color is what makes this kind of photography really pop.

Did you shoot in RAW format? Try changing it in PS when processing the .RAW file

I have shot in RAW format...but on shoot that way if I think I might adjust it later...of if I am creating an HDRI for 3d.

I have seen some cool results. I will try some more.

When is it good to shot in RAW format ? Is there a specific theme...like if you are doing landscapes shoot in RAW ? Or is it just if you want to play with it later ?

here is my attempt at movement....I adjusted the shutter to stay open for a while and this one came out the sharpest....as I did not use a tripod. Its difficult to stay on the moving object when the eye piece is blacked out while the shutter is open. Any tips on this as I am very new to photography.

it's late i know but i thought i might see what everyone thought of this picture i was quite proud of considering these birds are about 10cm long. the only changes i've made to it are cropping it down and adjusting the colour balance.

ctranter, did you reduce the noise in the first two images? How did you get them so clean at 1250?

I like the bird in the last one the best, mainly how the motion blurrring is only visible in the tips of the wings.
