    highscore via email

    hello,

    i m currently struggling to get a highscore system running in a very restricted company environment.
    as i have no way of installing a database i was thinking of mailing the score to a predefined email address. so after playing the game a form will pop up asking for the users name and then mail it to the specified address.

    is there any way around php/perl skrips for the mailing part? is it possible to use an exchange server as the mail server?

    thanks in advance
    no pain no gain

    a lot depends on how your OS/Browser/Email Program is configured.
    you can try this method (tested in IE / Firefox ) -
    Code:
    /* - input textfields on stage
    with variable names as below,
    Name, Emailaddress, etc....
    hardcoded here for testing purposes - */

    Name = "ME";
    Emailaddress = "jok@jak.jik"
    Address1 = "16";
    Address2 = "MY";
    Address3 = "HOUSE";
    Address4 = "MY";
    Address5 = "ROAD";
    Postcode = "QW1 ER2";
    Phone = "09876543 123";
    Subject = "Testing email";
    nl = "%0A";
    Comments = "Hello"+nl+
    "Here is a link to your file"+nl+
    "http://www.xxxx.org/q_cd/quad_08_song.zip";

    /* a button to send the mail
    this will use the OS default email program */

    send_button.onRelease = function(){
    getURL ("mailto:mailings@yoursite.com?Subject="+
    Subject+"&body=Name: "+Name+nl+
    Emailaddress+nl+
    Address1+nl+
    Address2+nl+
    Address3+nl+
    Address4+nl+
    Address5+nl+
    Postcode+nl+
    Phone+nl+nl+
    Comments);
    }

    looks good so far. will test it tomorrow.
    just one question. the mail will only be created not sent automaticaly right? so in my case the user could tamper with the highscore value? is there any way to auto send the mail?

    the os/browser/mailer setup is the same on all computers here. outlook2k/win2k/ie6.
    no pain no gain

    not that I know of without a server-side script.
