ok, so each gets a certain role and then they act according to this role. there are 5 different roles: gangster, doctor, undercover police officer and villager. Usually, in one game, there are 3 gangsters (team 1), 1 doctor, 1 police officer and 4 villagers (team 2). There's also a leader who assigns roles and leads the game.
The leader starts the first day and everyone (not knowing who is who, except for mafia - they know their own) must decide who is Mafia. At the end of the day they must kill 1 person. Also Mafia makes its move and kills 1 person. And then doctor tries to save that person and in the end police officer checks 1 person to see if he's Mafia or not and if he is - kills him. And then the game leader starts a new day
The goal of team 2 is to kill everyone in team 1 and vice versa
Well, it's just an overview. I'll post correct rules if anyone will be interested.
