I really loved all the War Craft games, StarCraft is really good, Star Wars Empire at War is amazing(if you like Star Wars), Age of Empires, Civilization. All RTS's make me think about new and different ways to go into battle. It's awesome how there is never one or two ways but many different ways to complete the mission.

I haven't really played any Flash based RTS but that commando III sounds pretty good.

Some award winning titles in here guys

Command and Conquer is the best ever RTS series released for its sheer improvement over the years in graphics, strategy and style.

Age of Empires 2 is always great to play online with mates especially when you are a noob and build 6 million layers of wall interpreting bombard towers in between each layer. lol. those days

Rise of nations, you just gotta love overtaking every settlement and owning the entire map.

Pity about the unit caps for the above 2. c&c u cud have like a zillion mamoth tanks and still be able to build more.

Oh god i cant wait for Command and Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars to come out.
oh and Supreme Commander hopefully due out in 6 months guys. Jan 07 predicted

very sorry guys for my late reply, had tons of school work.

As for end-game units, I LIKE having an uber kick-asci unit to beat all others. The trick is to prevent me from making 10 of them. Rise of Legends has these uber units that are god-like but you can have only one at a time. Like this monster:
    *Super weapons

Can i ask what sort of skill level you are when it comes to coding? Would be nice to see a decent RTS in flash.
Advance. I've been codeing flash for 5 years. The game (still under dev) is being done in java, im incharge of porting it over to flash (if possible ).
    *Hint:MMORTS

Reason I think its good? Hmm.. It has many upgrades, and theres so much strategy in which upgrades to spend your resourses on.. But the main thing that makes it good is the variety of teams to choose from, the fact that not everybody is equally good on everything. Teutons are good against all melee type of units, but the brits can outconquer them with their excellent archers and so on.. Everybody has their strengths and their weaknesses..
    * Variety of teams

Thanks for all your input guys, much appreciated.
What do you guys think about micromanagement? Should there be as little as possible or is more best?

    Generally speaking:

more little things you need to do to get something done = more micromangement.

One example of micromangement would be using a spellcasting unit by selecting them individually and targeting their spells at individual enemies.

I like micromanagement, but it can become overwhelming. I think it is important to give the player enough breathing room to deal with however much micromangement you want to put in there, and limit it to certain areas of the game (like spellcasters or other unique or complex units/buildings). Having to micromanage peasants shouldn't be necessary (simple units should have simple controls).

I like micromanagement, but I don't like it to be the only way of controlling units - I also like my guys to have a reasonable amount of intelligence.

-Pikmin ! Other RTS are so booooring. In pikmin you don't fight another army which is the same as yours with a different color (or a few different powers), you're alone with an objective and against the environnement. Some kind of PvE instead of PvP. The design is much cooler than the traditionnal RTS "army" stuff. RTS are all about war...if I liked war I'd go into the army.
-I hate WAR in RTS, I prefer rising my civilization. I used to play Age Of Empire without ennemies.
    -Nothing special
    -A "peace" mode ^^
-Sorry, I don't know what it is (english...)
-Some game in which each unit would have a great IA and live its own life according to her task (sleep at night...). Also I like when you can modify the time compression (real time, x2,x5,...) whenever you want to.

Fil Razorback, I think you would really enjoy Caesar III, it's all about building a city with a stable economy, get it if you can.

Micromanagement, as arawkins said, means 'having to do more little things to get a job done'.
