Didn't you just get a 50mm macro and then the extension tube?

Yup, but it still means I have to get within a couple inches of the victim, er, subject, to get in focus. I've missed a lot of shots because of that, to say nothing of almost getting bit or stung. With the Sig, I can stay back about 12 inches, I think. The 50 will be for in the house closeups.

Is that full 1:1 now? And how close were you to it?

    And now I'm hungry.

It is 1:1 as far as i remember...took this about a year ago.
Distance app 1/2 yard...I really don't remember exactly.
I know I got all crazy about it when I did the first photos...after some months of using it I could imagine to get me a 150 one day...but that one is much more expensive!

Yeah, I'm really liking Macro again. I use to do a lot of it when I shot film, before the days of digital really. I had bellows and reversing rings and I can't remember what all, and it was easier to take interesting pictures. Digital is so much better. No film to buy or process, instant gratification. What more could a camera junky ask for?

BTW, did you know that ground cherry was edible? It's like a tomato.

I just bought the 180mm Canon Macro...

jking. But that 105mm Sigma is of interest compared to the Canon 100mm...5 more mm and atleast $50 cheaper...post some samples soon and maybe specs other then the EXIF data like distance from subject etc.

I had my college box # and cell phone number on my account so they couldn't verify it so I had to call be on hold for half an hour and have my home address and phone number added. They called my house and left a message and my mom called back with my order # and verified it. It still says processing but the guy said if it was verified last night they should be shipping today. I got my remote in the mail I got off ebay 3 days ago in today though. THAT is what I call service.

Remote? That $10 cord one for the Canon EOS? Yeah, I bought that too, took 4 days though, cause I ordered on Friday. I wish I had bought two or three of them. So I can cut one open and do some engineering to it for a sound trigger. They got that nice silky feel to them though, don't they?

Well, my life size converter came last night. After dark unfortunately, but I managed these at 1:1 under one 100 watt equivelant florescent bulb. I set Aperature priority to 5.6, 1/180s, ISO 400, and used a tripod.

Very nice indeed. Lots of new toys floating around this forum! Now it is time to flood it with photos. Hopefully I can put my blog and flickr account to use.

Can't wait till the Sig 105 get's here. Had a delay in shipping cause I had to wait for a bank transfer to PP to cover it, that took 3 days. I cleard and should ship today though. Will be nice to get back a few inches and still get the 1:1. Also going to order some Kenko tubes next week which will give it 2:1.

This is a terrible hobby. LOL

I buy nothing from ebay. They have a great little Sell forum at POTN, which is where I bought the Sigma 105.

Everything else, I order new online, or get from my local dark and dusty camera shop.

Well, the life size converter was used at B&H Photo.

I thought you said you were stopping after the sigma?
Not a chance. Already got my eye on the Sig 180.

If I had the dough, I'd order the Canon MP-E65, but it's a grand I don't have right now. A new 30D comes first.

I bodged one the other day, I just set it to a long exposure and swung a bulb on a lead in circles above. Worked pretty well!
