putting a real person inside a cartoon background?

is there any effective way to put a drawn background over a video clip of a real person? I know that for a picture of a real person, all you have to do is cut out the outline of the person and stick it in a drawn cartoon background, but that's almost impossible if you're trying to cut out the outline of a video clip of a person and stick it in a cartoon background. kinda like the looney tunes: back in action with michael jordon

Such things are generally done by first filming the person in front of a green screen. Then in your video editing program you can set it so that color is masked out, leaving only the person. The quality of your software, video and green screen will determine how good your edges look.

The technical term is chroma key.

And here is a little info on using it with Windows Movie Maker. I'm sure you can find more with a google now that you've got the correct term.

The technical term for what you are trying to do is "Composting". "Chroma key" is the color/specs of the green or blue screen.

No -- the technical term is compos-I-ting! "Composting" is the art of rotting down vegetable matter so it can provide nutrients for your garden...
