I've got a bunch of variables in a movie clip called, "window1". One variable name is called "Subject". If I want to set Subject to "This is cool" then how do I access the var?

Do you want to set the variable or access it's value?

It sounds from your description like you want to update the value or set it in which case you would just
Set Variable: Subject = "This is cool"

Just make sure you use it properly as an expression or not.

Anytime you set a value for a variable it can be used at any other time so long as the original timeline is current. In other words you can use a variable value you set in your main timeline in any imported or loaded movie or movie clip.

    Hope this helps.

    It wasn't quite that

I am going to have multiple instances of the same movie but with different attributes set via the main timeline, so window1->subject = "This is Cool" and window2->subject = "This is not". I used window1/:subject = "This is Cool" and it seemed to work

btw, I am EXTREMELY new to flash but come from a background of programming. (I'm basically learning flash so I can understand what the designers are doing)
