    Sledge Rider

    Hi!
I have developed the sledge rider movie, making use of the line maker code.
    Please see this movie at:
    http://geocities.com/achyutveluvali/sledge_rider.htm
    and offer your comments.
    Thanks,
    Achyut Veluvali.

Thanks, I have developed the code from scratch. I am still working on this project to improve its working.

sledge rider = Line rider - physics - fun

sorry I'll give you an 'E' for effort. This game is not even remotely fun.

Achyut, within these sarcastic replies I think the message given is still correct. You're showing a game which idea obviously is stolen, except that it barely works.

I suggest you either improve the game, build in NEW SELF MADE UP stuff and then release it. Or post specific questions on how to build your game.

Stuff like this only brings up iritations.

Hey don't get mad at me, I just gave you what you wanted. Trust me you haven't made enough games in your life to challenge me to a build off. I will give you some advice. Instead of getting mad at the comments, ask the person why they think that. I was like you once; I would post my games and get mad at people for telling me the truth. My comment could of said " This game is a complete waste of bandwidth and the creator of this authentic imitation rip off of Line rider should be wiped with a cane and sent back into there mother's womb with a games for dummies booklet and a Adobe flash IDE manual." No all I said was some cheesy subtraction equation. Long story short, learn how to make the best out of a situation, so you and your work will benefit.

i think its interesting that people see a remake attempt of a pretty recently released game as something to moan about whereas most here would probably think a really well done mario, zelda or gta remake (to give just a few of the common examples) would be something nice to achieve
The older/known as classic the original game is the more nostalgia/ honroable points the developer of the remake gets, even if the remake lacks on various ends, yeah, suddenly just the halfway propper attempt is worth something

Well, besides the wondering,it is how it is and shows: Achyut, you´re better of cloning an old game or if you remake a recent one better give it an original twist or you will be blamed by the audience for any lacking sides of your game compared to the original game and probably get no thumbs up for just the attempt.

I do not claim that I have achieved any thing great!
Firstly, I tried to draw a line using mouse down, and
mouse move functions. Then I thought I should add an
animation similar to the original movie. I thought my work
may encourage other experienced programmers to
develop a code similar to the famous and well received original,
and publish it. As I have said earlier I am also working further
to make my movie better. It is not my intention to hurt
    the sentiments of any body.

    Well put.

    That's it really...

    Hi!
IP Thanks! I played both Coin Chase, and Star destroyer. I find them both innovative.
    Keep going.

A proper clone of Line Rider should accomplish this:

    1. Work/play just as good as the original
    2. Add in what the original lacks.

What the original lacks is an OBJECTIVE to play. Imagine if line rider had levels, and it started with a quick scrolling overview of the "world". It would show your starting point, then it would show a target destination point that the sledder must arrive at. I'd also sprinkle in some obstacles and things to further complicate the level. Then the challenge is drawing in a slope that gets the sledder from Start to Finish while avoiding the obstacles.

OK people, you have your challenge. MAKE THIS GAME! ;-D

    Well Said! Ray Beez.
That is also my intention. Let the flash developers take this as a challenge and develop the movie better than the original, and publish it in FLASKIT. I myself am trying to do the same.

Well, it's a good attempt. Actually I think one way to learn is trying to make what others have done until you get to do it, and when you're there move to something new. That way you advance in your knowledge and experience. That was the way I started... when I was able to make a game I've seen I tried until I got it and then tried something else and so on. Though, I think its not quite a good idea to post or show your work publically until you have something like what Ray Beez pointed out, that is as good as the original and has new features (to be at least able to compete against all other clones out there) unless you're asking for help, and you're still in danger of getting flamed. Keep on, good start.

i can't accept lineRider as a game. Its a tool or a toy, it has no purpose other than to amuse. Its a level editor at best, and honestly who wants to play a level editor. Unless there is some user enabled controls which alters the gameplay, i wont be playing it more than once.

while this "clone" is a good experiment its not really anything, but keep going i guess, its a good chance to learn about vectors and such.

Phobik: "There was a movie clip so stupid that failed a hit test".
-This is because the hit test does not cut corners.
    __________________________________________________ ______________
The developer of the original movie himself had described
    it as:
“Its not a game, its a toy. What I mean is there are no
goals to achieve and there is no score.”
The bottom line is that it has become exceptionally popular
having been viewed by more than 19 million persons till today.
I have spent several sleepless days to develop a source code
starting from scratch and succeeded only by 10%.
What I am not able to figure out is:
1.How to achieve acceleration while going down, and deceleration
    while going up.
    2. How to reverse the direction of the rider when he goes up and his
speed is reduced to zero due gravity.
