flash banner with target_blank
I have been asked to make an swf banner ad, that has dimensions of 468x60px and file size up to 12kb. Now on this flash banner i want to be able to click on and link to a website. So i was told to embedded a link with target _blank, and as an example i was given this...
on (press,release){getURL("http://www.mycompany.gr/ ", "_blank");}
now this doesnt make a lot of sense to me so if possible someone guide plz

It's a long way to the middle
Why doesn't that make sense to you? _blank is the standard command to open a link in a new browser window.

Basically you need to create a button in Flash. You'll probably want to make a big see-through button that covers your entire Flash movie. Then you select the button, bring up your Actions window and paste the code they gave you in there.

it doesnt make mutch sense because i am not familiar with flash!
rdoyle720: can u help me a little more with the button u described?

I only said that because "_blank" is the standard html command to open a new browser window. It's not unique to flash. Links 101 if you will.
You need to create a button in flash, with Only the "Hit" state. On the hit frame, draw a solid rectangle the size of the banner ad. Now drag the button from the library onto the stage. Position it directly over your banner. Don't worry, the rectangle won't be visible when you publish your movie.
Now, click the button on the stage once, open the Actions panel and add the getURL code.
That's it. Nothin to it.
Let me knowif you need more help.

Are you using (press,release) ? You only need one or the other. I always use on (release)
-
why would i be advised to use both? any special reason or was it a mistake?

I have no idea. Were you actually told by someone to code it that way? If so, never listen to them again.

this was the code that was suggested...
on (press,release){getURL("http://www.mycompany.gr/ ", "_blank");}
ok so about the press release thing i choose release and seems very reasonable to me better than "press"
what i dont get is the http://www.mycompany.gr/ ", "_blank" part, ok the mycompany will be the site i want the link to work, but what is the "_blank" part for?

I thought I made it clear in my other posts. "_blank" opens a new browser window. It's standard html web design coding. Nothing to do with flash. It's html and it's used with links so they open a new browser without taking the viewer away from the site they are on.
Is your banner working for you now?

Havent built it yet but im sure ill have no problem, thanx so mutch!
