I'm far from a graphic designer, but I think you google for a nice wood grains photograph that in mood fits to your need, and then you use the color picker from some program and click around till you get a nice scheme.

Depends whether it's cartoon wood or realistic wood you're after.

My method would be to do a google image search for 'wood' and use the color picker to sample out the colours from an image / graphic that fits the bill - I don't know whether that constitutes theft, but quite frankly, who is going to come calling at your door with a lawsuit for stealing their colours?

actually you can do it in flash by just drawing (attempts to make)

was very easy to make, and looks pretty nice considering that I made it
basically I used two rounded squares, covered them up with the same oval scaled repeatadly (90%, 80%, 70%, etc.). then i filled them in with appropriate colors and used the very nice bevel effects on it

this is meant to be a main menu

its not my favorite thing to use either
if I wasnt so lazy, I might to figure out this 3d renderer "blender" a bit better (Mechanisto crapped out on me after too many shapes were made (currupt files and everything))
seems like a very decent program, but I dislike how it seems to run slow

btw, does anyone know how to commit more cpu power to a certain program so I can fix this problem
im not computer savvy so I dont know how to myself :(

any program that doent have special effects/tools are harder to use
flash makes up for that lack with the fact that its using vectors and the few filters it does have, which are quite useful

A fusion of AI, Photoshop and Flash would seem like the best combination.

Unfortunately for me, I'm so ingrained into working with Corel Draw tht I have to export from Corel Draw to a .ai file and then import that file to Flash.

My use of Corel Draw probably makes me an amateur designer to some, but believe me, I've had to work with .ai files from professional design houses that look like they've been put together by the tea lady!

To anyone just starting out my advice would be to learn AI first. Your drawings will be compatible with Flash straight out of the box.

The rectangle tool has a filet option (rounding).

The bevel and drop shadow are just filters you can apply to movie clips using the Properties panel in Flash 8 and above.

Agreed. Everything takes soo long, move an item wait a minute, click up a menu wait an hour. But its a really powerful program,
