HD DVD -Digg
Anyone else been on Digg today? They are going nuts with this. So many members banned and articles deleted.

So what does this code mean for normal people? Is that going to allow HD-DVD rippers to be created or something so people can now steal HD movies off of torrent sites?

basically, it's the code that will de-CSS your HD-DVD's, all of them.
when will these people learn?

I guess I was reading that it was a major deal for the open source software community. Not just for pirating, but people writing software for HD-DVD codecs. So there is no way to create an HD-DVD player for Linux without that code.
But I guess the real big problem is with Digg censoring the articles and banning members because Digg is sponsored by HD-DVD or something along those lines. I'm not exactly sure, just been browsing the hundreds of articles about it.

Today was an insane day. And as the founder of Digg, I just wanted to post my thoughts…
In building and shaping the site I’ve always tried to stay as hands on as possible. We’ve always given site moderation (digging/burying) power to the community. Occasionally we step in to remove stories that violate our terms of use (eg. linking to pornography, illegal downloads, racial hate sites, etc.). So today was a difficult day for us. We had to decide whether to remove stories containing a single code based on a cease and desist declaration. We had to make a call, and in our desire to avoid a scenario where Digg would be interrupted or shut down, we decided to comply and remove the stories with the code.
But now, after seeing hundreds of stories and reading thousands of comments, you’ve made it clear. You’d rather see Digg go down fighting than bow down to a bigger company. We hear you, and effective immediately we won’t delete stories or comments containing the code and will deal with whatever the consequences might be.
If we lose, then what the hell, at least we died trying.
Digg on,
Kevin

He gets a big thumbs up for the brass balls for what surely is a "between a rock and a hard place" situation.
Half of me likes the free speech which placed the rock, half of me likes the attitude of the hard place for being noble while out of the blue it was chosen to have a rock placed

This just in....
Mike Houghton from Flashkit.com addressed the crowd today and stated "We don't have all the details yet but it seems one of our best known supermods posted the code and all hell broke loose!...we feel it's a classic case of monkey see monkey do and fully blame peer pressure and the devil may care attitude of our resident evil one".....no word yet on whether Flashkit can recover from the half million posts created in the last 12 hours being sifted through as we speak. Film at eleven

There was a how-to posted on digg (and several other sites). Oh and I'm sure Google will be able to help you as well.
