I am just in the challenge of not smoking.

    My motivation:
If I don't smoke for a year, I can get myself the laptop computer I wanted.
Now I am buying it this Xmas already and I don't know if I can keep the not smoking thing up for a year, heheh.

How long have you been smoking? I smoked for about 2 years when I was in 7th and 8th grade. I wasn't addicted so it was easy for me to quit. Have you tried the patch, or that nicotene gum?

it's not hard to quit, when you never start.
i actually did smoke between the ages of 15-18 on and off. but never got addicted. don't understand why people would. i mean your hand stinks, your hair stinks, your breathe stinks, your clothes stink, and you wake up with a sore throat every morning. there aren't any real positives. it made it pretty easy to stop.

    sore throat

You only have a sore throat when you don't drink beer with smoking, hehe.
Yeah I am addicted, I guess. Really bad at it.
I smoke for 4 years with one year break in between and now I try to get rid off it for good.

Smoking does stink. Unhealthy etc...but nothing cooler than having the cigarette with the coffee in the morning.

I started when I was 13 and I stopped at 14 after smoking three packs in 4 hours. Yuck! However, I still like cigars, and I smoke a cigar every 2-3 months, just as a social thing. It's very typical here in my country.

    Regards,

i smoked for four or five years and quit very slowly. some people quit cold some it take a while. it all depends on how determined you are, or how much time you spend around people that do smoke. I just quit buying them, when i just couldn't take it i would bum one from a friend but that gets old with your friends real quick because cigarettes are expensive - over $3 a pack for reds here. over time i just didn't need to smoke anymore and i havent taken a drag for about 4 years. I don't spend much time in bars or clubs either which helps a alot. And the US it's gotten easier to quit because you can't smoke inside most public places and who wants to freeze outside just for a dang cigarette?

I've smoked for about 10 years now and though I have been sick of it for some time now, the nature of addiction compels me to keep smoking. I've tried everything to quit: gum, the patch, zyban, laser therapy, it's all garbage (except zyban, that probably would've worked if I had quit drinking as well). They only real way to do it is sheer will power. It's not always easy to come by, but if you could muster enough to quit smoking, you could probably do pretty much anything. Anyways 2001 is the year to quit. It's pretty much an annual tradition, but that stops this year dammmit! Good luck iCEBERG and wish me the same.

Never started...although I was tempted once or twice. I think I'm glad, now, that I never did.

I don't mind people smoking, I just wish they wouldn't do it near me: I made the choice not to smoke, so I'd rather not be forced to inhale someone else's.

stogie means cigar in USA. You've never heard of that?!

Junk Yard Wars is a TV show that takes place in England.

It is pretty good, but the accents are a little hard to understand sometimes. It is on TLC, The Learning Chanel. One of my favorites

Did you see the world championship of Scrapheap challenge/Junkyard wars?? They had the finalists from both programs pitted against each other, building car crushers!!

The yanks won with a big hammer thing.. Us Brits lost, but ours was the more elegant design... We used hydraulics! . Ah well...

Can't wait for the new series!!
