    LAMP development server

Wow, I haven't been here in ages. Nice to see a familiar name or two.

I am looking to set up a LAMP development server running the exact same software as the live server.

I've got a box dedicated for it and a lynksys router to connect to it.

I can install all the LAMP software without any problems, but I'm having trouble figuring out how set up the router so that I can access the development server from a different computer on my home network. I want to be able to ssh into the dev server as well as open a browser and surf the webpages on it.

I am finding stuff about Samba and whatnot, but I am not interested in file sharing. I'm looking to create a server that serves up webpages when accessed by other computer's browsers (or code editors) in the house.

Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

    Hi,

you probably ant to set up a static ip for the lamp box (and enter it into the hosts files of the other machines in the house)
Suppose your router's ip is 192.168.0.1, and its dhcp range starts at 168.0.100, an ip like 192.168.0.2 would do
That's all, unless you ant to allow outside access into that box as well

    Ok, thanks!

Just fiddling around, I started apache on computer 'A' and by just typing computer 'A's ip into computers 'B's browser, it served up a webpage.

I had no idea it would be this simple.
