Boxing day iz when all the stores sell off all the stuff they bought for christmas thats extra at really CHEAP prices, last year i picked up a scanner for 15$ normally $135....

Traditionally it ment thats when all the boxes from christmas presents get trown out ,,, i think...
BTW I'm from Hamilton Ontario , 40 mins from Toronto

I'm from Canada, too. Waterford, Ont.

Boxing Day is an old British tradition. The Aussies celebrate it, too, I think. It goes back to Victorian times when an idea of social responsibilty was just springing up. The idea was that, after Christmas, those who were more well-off would pack up their Christmas left-overs and stuff they didn't need anymore into boxes and it would be distributed to the poor on Dec 26.
Today, in Canada, it has become a post-Christmas retail extravaganza. I see some of the ads for these sales depict boxing ring and boxing glove images. It is a total corruption of the original intent. The only good thing about it is that many Canadians get to enjoy a second day off from work with their families.
