First Flash attempt. Is my file size to big?

    Hi everyone,

I have been working in SEO and done quite a bit of basic web design.
I want to improve my new project so I have had a stab at flash...
I have only added a title but I'm concerned that the file size is to big I haven't put it on my homepage yet.

It seems to load perfectly fine but the size is 4.91 MB

    I really appreciate anyone's advice.

    Thanks very much!

What exactly is 5 megs here? The flash banner? No way that should be that big of a file size... make sure only the part of the image that you're seeing is in the actual movie... compress them properly... they look like low res photos stacked on top of each other. If it's not the banner you're talking about then honestly I have no idea.

You need to resize the images in photoshop before you import them into flash as if you have a 1600x1600 bmp and shrink it in size in flash, it's still a 1600x1600 bmp its exporting

At least i am assuming thats what some of the problem is?

I was guessing that was the problem but the thing is the images look like such a low resolution in the flash movie... but it might be the problem.

Thanks very much for your help.

I kind of made it while I was trying to learn fireworks.
And yes that does appear to be the problem.

So do I have to redo each frame with the smaller picture size? Wow that will take some time Or is there an easier way to do it?

And what program should I use to redo it fireworks or flash (I have'nt used flash yet)?

It's a decent start. You need to work on the header of the site. The images have pixelated edges and require some clean up work. Try looking at the MGM grand site for tips on how to lay it out, reference http://www.mgmgrand.com/.

The left hand and top navigaiton are barely visible so you should make them more prominent and make the body / content text smaller. Also try looking at sites like CNN.com and others to bring together your layout. There is a lot going on and it would benefit from title bars and alignment of the content.

    I agree NANAND78,

The page is very busy, and I have been working on a few things to pull it togther more.

However right now Im trying to get this banner finished.

Could anyone just give me some advice on wheter or not I have to redo each frame with the smaller picture size? Or is there an easier way to do it?

And what program should I use to redo it fireworks or flash (I have'nt used flash yet)?

I would recommend cleaning up the edges of your image or saving it as a PNG in photoshop or creating a mask around the graphic in flash. Then animate it in Flash. Your top header banner would also be better if the site's name was on the top right rather than the limo with a guy standing there. It looks incomplete and the animation is cluttered.

I do freelance work.. If you give me all of the picture files and the .fla document I could edit everything to be the best fit picture/file size. Shouldn't be too difficult.

here is my portfolio, I do mostly actionscript development, but I can do graphics as well. http://www.geekstoponline.com/portfolio

Depends on what you want. A CMS? How many pages? What's the scope? What's your budget? I could redesign and deploy pretty easily but to add in a CMS it'd be more expensive. E-mail me and we can chat.
