    [GAME] Christmas Slide

I have finished a Christmas game similar to the game Surround, except you can go over a path twice. The second time it is ice, and you slide across. The third time you fall through.

Tell me what you think of it, TOG the Mighty.

i think that this is has a TON of potential. it's a more complex implementation of one of my favorite games... don't remember the name- 2 snakes whose tails are the path they've taken and you cannot collide with yourself or the opponent snake's. (i was young enough that i don't even have any idea what system it was on).

anyway, yeah- really well done for a quick little game. i think it could probably move a little faster perhaps. and maybe make the initial starting tile not break? i fell through a few times whilst doing something else.

Cool game! At times it felt as though my elf would continue in the same direction for one tile after I had pressed another key which got me killed a few times but other than that it was fun.

Haha that's funny newblack I didn't think anyone else had played Snafu on Intellivision =p I was taking a basic computer class for a high school requirement two summers ago which was insanely boring (word, excel, etc.) so I decided to clone Snafu in flash and play it with the student next to me. Anyways, I didn't really fine tune it too much but here it is in single player mode (you're red): http://www.gotcool.com/misc/snakeWars.swf (arrow keys to move and space bar for next round/new game)

    nice game
    a couple comments
1: I wouldn't start the game until you press a key each level
2: maybe only show the intro once and have a instruction link on the first page in case you want to see it again
3: just an idea but maybe make you move faster on ice (like in chip challenge)

overall nice game... I will beat you top score

Did Snafu come out before Surround (that was for the Atari)?

Anyway... I have done most, if not all, of those things people told me to do.

Your controls seem a bit unresponsive. Actually, very unresponsive. Perhaps it's just me though. I'll press a key and two squares later my elf moves.

Graphics seem a little bit cluttered to me.

I think it has potential, games like this are always fun. Tighten up your controls though, they caused me great frustration.

(my little contribution to these type of games: http://ian.janasnyder.com/ss.htm > multiplayer > turn bots on)

The controls were fine for me... Were you on ice maybe?

Graphics seem cluttered to you? Any ideas what can I do about that?

To answer your question TOG, the "surround" / "snake" concept existed even pre-Atari, programmed on mainframe computers. Atari's first version of the concept was this thing (which I happen to have in my basement right now :-> ): http://www.klov.com/game_detail.php?game_id=7604

The first coin operated version of this concept was "Blockade": http://www.klov.com/game_detail.php?game_id=7160 and "BigFoot Bonkers" : http://www.klov.com/game_detail.php?game_id=7113 both in 1976

Your game is cool TOG. My complaints: too noisey when skating around. And the drop-shadow of the instruction text is too dark. use a lighter gray.

    Thanks.

You can turn off the ice sounds in Options.

Sorry, I was supposed to use the lighter gray throughout... but I accidentally used the darker one here and there... I have corrected that.

I have also added Jingle Bells as a song you can play.

    I beat your high score:
and the version of Jingle Bells doesn't sound so hot
