Damn't taco, I was this close to beating your tourny time but some classic last second mark kart bullsh*t took care of that. You got 2 seconds on me.
What character/kart combo did you use?

switched to the nunchuck... and got like 2 seconds off all of my races so far. And I still suck at this game.

I've been using the wheel. I haven't tried anything else.

And my character combo has been Donkey Kong/Offroader. I chose solely based on my personality, hahaha.

Hahah, Donkey Kong/Bike can't be beat. Just playback the worlds fastest ghost. That guy is amazing.

nunchuck + wii mote is the ideal controll for me. girlfriend is playing now, shes upset that she cant beat my ghosts.

Few tips Gerbick.
It's almost more about staying armed than in first. But more importantly, keeping everyone else un-armed by hogging the powerups.

Keep drag-able items as long as possible before the next power up (and maybe even then some if in 1st). Then when you hear an alarm, drag it behind you (hold left d-pad). You maintain your placement much more that way.

You must learn the shortcuts, online they are the only option. Not all tracks have them but all the tracks from previous mario karts retained theirs. A lot of them are just using a mushroom to boost over mud.

Master the drift corner and draft boost. Don't let others draft and get right on em if they pass you.

Getting air = slowing down. They at least added the ability to get a boost upon successful air trick so if you go off a ramp, shake something.

Start with vehicles with better offroad, once you get better, use karts with top speed.

On the last couple of corners on the last lap, there is no better place to be than in 2nd. 1st place will almost definitely get nuked just before the finish.

Sadly, nintendo just wont let go of game-pop. The music and sound effects are even more annoying this time around.
At least diddy kong ds allowed you to record your own voice for sound effects.

Kid down the hall who owns it said he just played with the game cube controller after playing it the last 2 days with the wheel and said he was crushing his ghost and beat all the cc level races.

im telling ya nunchuck + wiimote, all teh buttons are easily in reach, you keep the waggle for jumps.

with the GC controller you need to move a finger off steering in order to hit the d-pad to do tricks.

Yep looks like that's the ticket. The wheel aint so bad really but there's definitely a nice feel to the nunchuck.
