    Status of Server-side Actionscript (SSAS)?

What is the status of server-side Actionscript? It seems most people use PHP or some other scripting language to do server-side processing for their Flash apps when they need to do certain jobs, such as send email, access a DB, etc....but I know there is such a thing as server-side AS but the articles I saw concerning that were kinda old....so what is the current status of it and what is the best way to do server-side processing? right now I use PHP but I'm open for change!

    thx in adv.!

I have never heard of server side AS, unless you are referring to how Flash Media Server uses AS on the server side. Other than that, I have not heard of anything along the lines of PHP type server side AS.

FMS is a server that your application connects to and holds a persistent connection with it. It's mainly used for real time streaming video, live webcam, live chats, live multiplayer games, etc.

There is also a popular open source version called red5. Not sure if it does server side AS, but it does support remoting.
