    [SHOW] Festival Pro

No, it's not a game about fairground hookers, it's a video rhythm game done for Pro Plus, who didn't give us any free samples whilst we were making it
It's been a real schlep, but I'm quite happy with the result. We were lucky enough to get some great music, which for this kind of game is half the battle. Let me know what you think!

Oh, if you have an ad blocker you won't be able to play it, since the assets are being served by a streaming company that specialises in ad serving and is blacklisted (not within my control, sorry).

Oh god, I ended up #4 on the Highscore board after just playing once and without sound (no speakers here >.<). Maybe I didnt lose all of my hardcore DDR practice...

That's a good game -even without any sound-, the videos add quite a lot to it :P
My only crits are that I couldnt tell the difference between green and red arrows and that there's a lack of visual feedback on key validation. The DDR/Stepmania system works much better : they make the arrow lighter until it's white and then fade out (very quickly) if you got it right whereas it keeps scrolling behind the bar if you missed it.

Bug : in the highscore board, repeatdly clicking previous or next very fast makes it display too many lines on the screen (no more mask or something like this).

    Congrats'

It worked smooth and looked good

Its kind of pity that you cant really watch that interesting video taking up most of the game area, instead the game takes place in small column at the right side. I would of perhaps liked more of the combined game elements like arrows moving on the video.

Always wondered how you generate arrows for those games. Are you making them dynamically while music plays or are the arrows manually set?

P.S. ok, highscores does not work with Opera, cant submit and cant read them

I'm wondering how you calculate the score? I played it a number of time, and scored around 3rd place consistently, but I couldn't get higher even though it definitely seemed like I was getting more of the arrows, at closer to the correct time.

    fil_razorback:
Thanks for the catch, I've fixed that now.

Also thanks, but I'm a bit stumped by this. It's uses JSON for the high scores and it works in firefox and IE but comes back with a back request in opera.

I did spend a bit of time trying to get the arrows to generate dynamically using the spectrum analyser, but I couldn't get it to progress and stay with the music well enough that I was satisfied so I just rigged up a swf so I could tap along on the keyboard and it outputted the pattern.

    Wes:
The score's worked out by taking the max distance minus the distance from the perfect spot and squaring it (well, by a factor of 1.8), so small differences make a large score change. You'll find it hard to get into the top 2 (top 3 now...heh) because they're all me testing, and I've played it about 50 gazillion times. Maybe I should have them taken out of the database...

If I'm not mistaken, this sounds like a challenge. Game on.
