3D Bowling game (Papervision and WOW physics engine)

    Hi,

Thought i'd share our (Playfish) latest game, we have taken in use Papervision for 3D characters and parts of the in-game graphics, combined with using the WOW physics engine for the pin and ball behaviour.

You can play it on facebook (only published there so far):
    http://apps.facebook.com/bowlingbudd...o?pf_ref=x1008

Or view a quick video on youtube:

Still in beta, so any feedback you have will be greatly appreciated

    Cheers,
    Kim

I don't have a facebook account, but the video looks great! I like the highscore screen alot, and the way the pin swayed around for a moment without falling is perfect.

Curious as to why you call frames rounds?

    Hei,

Glad you like it! We chose "round" as it was a more common term for people who do not play bowling. Just to keep it super simple

I think you did a very good job playing to the strengths of papervision / 3D in flash. As in, just using it to punch up the graphics of a simple concept and using low-poly models that are caricatured/hyperexpressive.

    Looks fun

Most people here are not a facebook user, and the video is useless to tell how it will run for those who dont have dual core computers, untill now i have never find a single papervision example that run fast on not brand new computers

you can see my specs below.
    it runs fine for me.
    look at it carefully.
it is a well crafted game.

it's not some crappy little window either. it's 640x480

Many folks use stuff even older tham that, and they loose nothing with that.Email, video, whatever, they can see it all in 1.8Ghz laptops
But anyway, im not saying that this one is slow like any of the others, it may be the first one...others could test it if there is an online version out of facebook...wich i dont care at all

well lets hope someone doesn't speculate about the performance of one of your games without even trying it huh? you may not have said it was slow but you certainly implied it.
i would suggest you read your post again and imagine how you would feel if someone had said that about one of your games.

Dude don't listen to these old grouches, that's a sweet game you've made there.

I was wondering about making Flash games in Facebook myself. I quite often play Texas Hold'Em on there and sometimes wondered about how tricky it would be to get an app on FaceBook, any advice?

I've just checked the video as my facebook account stuff is in work ( I've got no interest in FB even though I've had to develop a game for it, hence not even knowing my login, but that's by the by ), and it looks sex.

The section showing where you are in the rankings looks stunning. With the whole FB thing that's going to become more and more important and you've nailed it.
I'll def. be giving this a proper bash on Monday

Incrue, so what if you need a high spec. machine ( Although Blink has said you don't ) ? There has to be some progress to push things forward and raise the bar, we can't all just keep targeting our games to run nice on a 1ghz machine any more.
If feels like the papervision backlash here is nearly as great as the papervision love used to be.

I would love to play it but I am not a fan of having to become a member of sites as there seems to be quite a lot of sites where you need to do this. From others pc specs shown in this thread, I can only assume that the game will run ok for me (2.2 ghz here). Still, I can get an ok look at it via the video and looks nice.

This thread has convinced me that I really need to upgrade my pc to a flash friendly dual core, some reasonably priced pcs out there
