LOL. I loved Up... Pixar has gotten damn good at the art of story-telling without words. I won't call it the best movie by no means, but I liked it enough to go back and own it.

Just finally saw The Tournament. Gory as hell, worse plot ever, Kelly Hu lust settled... the doctor dude from Stargate Universe as a drunken priest and Ving Rhames delivering his typical staccato Marcellus Wallace delivery sans anal entry from Zed... and still enjoyed it. Not as low-brow as Shoot 'Em Up but damn close.

I thought UP was absolutely timeless. Great story that evoked emotions, was sweet and appropriate for the whole family. Pixar is doing for animated story telling what Spielberg did for Motion pictures.

also, people said it has the saddest 10 mins movie opening but I thought it was the happiest (they lived happily together until the end, not like she suddenly died).

It could have been a lot better, story-wise :\
I saw it a while ago, so I might be wrong. As I see it, the goal of the man was to take the house to the other side and leave it there and then who cares. He only cared about fulfilling his dead wife's dream (to leave on top of that big waterfall, where she'd have all kinds of adventures). Then, all these things happen that didn't let him complete his task...etc, etc.

In the end, I saw two big clear messages in the movie:
    1. The destination is not important, getting there is the fun part of life. The old man was living all kinds of adventures (which is what he always dreamed of), but he didn't realized it earlier because he was trying to fulfill a dumb goal. Once he got where he wanted, he realized that there were more important things: life itself and his friends, so he went to save them.

    2. I think the house was a big metaphor to the way we live our lifes. We all drag our stuff around, and it doesn't let us live happily (you care about your phone, your ipod, your car, your house payments, the big tv that you bought last xmas, etc....and all those things make your life heavier...if you wanted to go travel to South-america tomorrow, have an adventure, you just can't). I think most people live life thinking that they have to have all those responsibilities and things, but once you realize they don't matter, you are free to go wherever you want.

At least that's how I saw it. It was a movie that made me laugh, cry, and think.

Maybe the story could have been better, everything can always be better, but the one I saw was satisfying, it had its purposed, and it worked for me.

    That's a lot deeper than I saw.

I saw keeping his word was paramount and remembering one's youth is important.

Just got back from seeing Up In The Air. It was surprisingly really good. It's definitely worth seeing.

The preview for Shutter Island looks really good too. Will have to check that out in theater.

What would be surprising about that? This movie has been one of the most anticipated of the year, with a 90% approval rating at rotten tomatoes...

I didn't really follow the news around it and didn't know too much about it going in. So it was surprising for me.

Yeah but that is just the fuel for the story...

just got a shipment of used dvds from hollywoodvideo(previewed movies 8 for $20 including shipping)

the spirit, captivity, doomsday, quarantine, son of rambow(possibly the only "good" movie in the group), max payne Resident evil extintion, city of ember.

so i know the spirit is going to be a train wreck, and son of rambow had a lot of indy hype. captivity should be good as a torture porn type movie, anyone seen any of the others?

Quarantine has the sister from Dexter in it. That's about all it had going for it. It wasn't AS bad as I thought it was going to end up being but the previews definitely made it seem way scarier.
