    NYC Live Music

Anyone know of any good sites that list by date range all live music that's going on in Manhattan?

I know i can search ticketmaster, but that only brings up live shows that have them as the ticket brokers, and i know there's plenty of venues who don't use them.

I've done a google search, but nothing is really showing up that seems like a comprehensive list.

Any of you locals use anything specific?

    Two words.

    Bowery.Ballroom.

Possibly the best venue anywhere, but definitely the best venue in Manhattan. If you are visiting there, I'd say go see a show there, even if you could care less about the artist...in this case, the venue makes the show.

Also, which venues do you 'know' that don't use vendors in NY? I am pretty sure just about all of them do. You should also chek villagevoice.com as they have fairly comprehensive live act advertising section each week.

As I mentioned earlier, the Voice is the pre-eminent source of this stuff. They have a 15-20 page section of live musice ads each week. Getting the actual paper (as PAlexC mentions) is key, but the site is a good second bet.

Again, I don't care if the show consists of bearded amputee midgets eating roasted llama testicles -- bowery ballroom is a must.

i checked out village voice.com and unfortunately, they only have music posted for the current week. I'm looking to do a bit more planning for the trip which isn't until August.

I'll be checking out livenation soon.

Also, unfortunatley, the Bowery doesn't have anything on their calendar for the weekend i'll be there.

I'd call them to check. That's one of those places that may not have something on their official schedule, but it doesn't mean that no one is playing there that night - it may be a private show or something that you can look on craigslist for tix.

    When will you be there?

    *EDIT*
Another fabulous venue - Summerstage in Central Park.

    thanks for the links.

    I'll be there August 8-11.

I do see that Judas Priest & Motorhead are going to be in town that weekend. Don't think the wife would like to do that for our anniversary though

I'll keep on searching....My question really has derived from times i've been in NYC and just stumbled upon a place that was having a show. But that was before the Internet was the place to post events.
